We had a great time celebrating World Book Day!

The whole school was invited to come dressed for the day as a favourite book character. This year saw the widest ranging set of characters ever! We had everyone from Cinderella to an Oompa Loompa!

Pupils spent the day sharing books and joining in a variety of book based activities such as designing book tokens, creating new stories and making animations.

There were lots of house points awarded and some pupils received book prizes for their thoughtful costumes.

Thank you to everyone who joined in and created the wonderful costumes. We had a really enjoyable day!

Reading in school

At Kings Ash Academy we aim to give children a wide range of reading experiences, so that they begin to develop a life-long love of reading.

Mrs Drewett is our Reading Leader.  She is available before and after school every Tuesday to answer any reading related questions you may have and also to listen to any suggestions you have regarding reading activities.

Any offers of help to share books with our children are always gratefully received! If you or a family member have half an hour to spare each week, Mrs Drewett would love to hear from you!

Please ensure your child brings their book bag to school every day. If possible, please try to spend a few moments each day sharing a book together.  We value the comments and observations you make in the Reading Journals.

This new academic year will see lots of different reading activities taking place!

  • The ‘20 reads’ certificates and prizes are starting over again
  • We have lots of new prizes and certificates to earn
  • We have chosen school librarians to organise our library each day
  • A new Reading Council has been formed

At Kings Ash Academy we have phased in the Read Write Inc. programme, across our Foundation and Key Stage 1 classes since September 2015. Some Key Stage 2 pupils have also accessed the programme to consolidate their reading skills.
Read Write Inc. programmes are carefully matched to the new curriculum, giving our children the best chance of success in their reading.  The lessons, taught in smaller class sizes, encourage children step-by-step, to become fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.
We recommend the following website, where a wealth of ideas, information and games are available to support reading at home:

Congratulations!
